May 14 is a very special day – it is the day we celebrate all the women in our lives who are mothers. For all you moms out there, this is a time to accept the accolades and appreciation for all the hard work you have put into raising your children! I can speak on a very personal note that this is a day that I acknowledge the woman who has raised my 2 beautiful children: my wife Susan. I dedicate today’s blog post to her.
Moms: The words “Mother’s Day” and “plastic surgery” may not intuitively be a natural combination, but in many ways this makes sense. What mom does not want to be pampered, appreciated, and made to feel even more beautiful on the outside? As you plan your beauty regimen and schedule for the upcoming summer months, Mother’s Day is a wonderful juncture to think about how you can make the most of the upcoming weeks and months by treating yourself to something as simple as Botox® or fillers, to something as comprehensive as a Mommy Makeover! What I have observed in my practice over the years is that moms love to plan ahead – what with children’s schedules, managing the finances, and working it is only natural that moms are consummate planners and time managers. Why not reserve some time on your calendar to treat yourself? Here are some of the treatments most commonly requested around this time of year by moms:
- Botox® – the beauty of this treatment is that it is so quick and yet can make you look so rested! A 20-minute treatment will give you up to 3 months of having a calm, relaxing appearance which – by relaxing the muscles in your face – can also lead to a sense of inner calm and peace. This is a must-do for the busy mom who doesn’t like brow lines or crows feet lines.
- Fillers – Most moms that I see are in their 30’s and 40’s. During these decades the skin contour changes associated with ageing become more noticeable and more apparent. Some favorite areas to plump up and fill are the areas underneath the eyes, the folds around the mouth, and the lips. Many options are available – from hyaluronic acid-based fillers such as Juvederm® and Restylane®, to longer-lasting options such as Belafill®. A real plus is that these are considered “minimally invasive” procedures with no downtime at all!
- Breast augmentations and tummy tucks – For moms who are not going to have more children, and who feel that the changes associated with pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding have altered their bodies, it is possible to reverse and improve these unwanted effects. Breast augmentation is an example of a very popular procedure that has come such a long way in terms of improvements in safety and reliability. Newer implant options and surgical techniques have been developed that can result in more natural feeling and appearing breasts. Tummy tucks can remove stretch marks, loose skin, excess fat, and can reduce protruding abdominal walls. If you are interested in regaining your swimsuit body in time for summer, a tummy tuck with or without a breast augmentation can restore your pre-baby physique!
There are many more options. If you have ever considered the possibility of having cosmetic procedures, Mother’s day may indeed be the time to come in for a consultation to start planning your ultimate treat. Your family will agree that no other person better deserves to feel great about themselves than the moms in our lives. Happy Mother’s Day!
